The End of Ibn Thabit

Period of Silence

July 12th, 2011 | By Ibn Thabit

Peace and blessings to all,

We are nearing the Holy month of Ramadhan, the month in which the Qu’ran was first revealed, the month in which Muslims fast by day and pray by night. I do not condone the listening of any kind of music during this month, and I will myself be stepping away from the microphone during this month. Having said that, I have prepared a song for Tripoli which I have not been able to record due to a persistent cough. If it does not heal within 10 days I will have to leave it until after Ramadhan, if I feel there remains a need to record it.

Salutations

Update for May 25th

May 25th, 2011 | By Ibn Thabit

Lately I’ve been much busier than usual, and there are probably many people wondering where I have been and why I am not responding to messages. Please forgive me.

In a few hours I will be releasing a song called “Shohada2ana”, which was made possible thanks to the selfless work of some very dear brothers in Egypt: singer Salah Ghaly and producer Tamim.

There’s a lot more to come from Ibn Thabit very soon, God-willing, including collaborations with Khaled M. and MC Swat.

First of all I would like to thank everyone who is supporting me. I’m only human and I need motivation like anyone else. This is a difficult time for everyone and it is easy to become depressed, so its nice to hear so many kind words from so many good people.

I would like to address everyone who has contacted me about doing interviews, concerts, and other public appearances. While I appreciate your interest in my work, I would like you all to know that my extended family and many of my friends are in Tripoli, and I don’t want to do anything that would jeopardize their safety.

Also I have been getting a lot of suggestions about what I should do next, how I should do it etc. I read every message and every email that is sent to me and I try my best to accommodate these suggestions. Please do not be upset if I am not able to meet your requests because I get a lot of them and its always a challenge to figure out how to implement them.

Finally, there are projects that have been put on hold for various reasons. They will be completed God-willing, just please be patient.

Thank you all for your understanding.

Lots to come, please be patient with me

Yes, we’re behind schedule with respect to some of the stuff we have promised. Unfortunately we’ve been faced with a lot of hurdles lately that have been slowing me and my crew down. I should be recording or re-recording 4 songs over the next few days.

There have been a lot of problems with doing the old Libyan national anthem from scratch… this in particular is something that is out of my hands. I am doing all that I can to get it done as soon as possible.

More Setbacks…

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to make my studio appointments as planned so all my work will be postponed till tomorrow, or possible after. Insha’Allah lots more to come.

Hip-Hop Weekly plus What happened with the anthem…

Salam everoyne. Not sure how things are gonna turn out but I am just about to throw down 3 or 4 new songs. With so much happening in Libya these days I have a lot to work with.

Also we’ve been having scheduling conflicts every time we tried to get our guitarist to come in and work on the Libyan anthem. Insha’Allah we have him locked down 100% on Saturday, which pushes back the release of the new anthem another week.

My apologies

After receiving a number of comments about a phrase I used in “Warrior Song” I feel I should clarify that I do not condone the cursing of any faith but it should be understood that my comment was targeted at those who consider Gaddafi as God-like. I apologize if this offended anyone and I will make sure it doesn’t happen again.

New Songs & the latest news

First of all Praise and Thank God that the no-fly-zone passed in the UN. Hopefully this will be enough to turn the tables on Gaddafi. Secondly I recorded 2 new songs on Wednesday, one of which was “7boob Halwasa” (I was gonna do 3 but I ran out of time). The other we will put out on Saturday God-willing.

Also on Saturday, I think we will finally complete the recording the music for the Libyan national anthem. If everything goes according to plan, we will release it the following week–and God-willing Libya will be totally free by then.

Happening Now

A new song using samples from Lion of the Desert, and also a new version of the pre-Gaddafi Libyan anthem from scratch. I have hired a producer and some musicians to put together something different but still loyal to the original sound, and I hope to have Junior perform the vocals insha’Allah.
